“Climate change could make forests susceptible to all kinds of stressors,” Parker said. A warming climate also means changes in soil moisture levels, potentially an increased fire risk, and susceptibility to new invasive species. The Northwoods is already seeing increases in extreme weather events, including major floods, Parker said.
